From Smytham Holiday Park you can explore the Devon countryside on foot or by bike. For cycling enthusiasts and those who enjoy a cycling holiday, Smytham is perfectly located on cycle route 27 which is a part of the Devon Coast to Coast and the Lands End to John O’Groats routes. If you are arriving on foot or by bike, we even have a special rate for you to stay!
Right on our door step is The Tarka Trail, a famous walking and cycle way which forms part of the greater cycling network.
Once an old 180-mile-long railway line, The Tarka Trail’s 33-mile-long route takes you from the village of Meeth and winds through the countryside, joining the meandering River Torridge and following it to the coast.
As you travel along, you will explore woodlands and forests, farmland, river side scenes and sand dunes and beaches.
With the exception of a few crossings, The Tarka Trail is off-road, traffic free and has a hard surface to make cycling easier. We have direct access to The Tarka Trail from the park and the closest cafés, Yarde Orchard Café and The Puffing Billy, are just 1.5 and 3.5 miles away respectively!

For those of you who don’t have bikes at home or are unable to bring your bikes with you, we have teamed up with Torrington Cycle Hire, so that we can bring a selection of cycling equipment to you.
We have a selection of adult’s and children’s bikes, children’s trailers and tag-a-longs and dog trailers too!
We have a couple of electric bikes which can be hired by adults. Pre-booking is essential for these.
All children’s bikes come with a helmet included. There are helmets which can also be hired by adults.
For each hire, you will also be given a bag with a bike lock, tools and a puncture repair kit (just in case)!
We have a special rate for those who are arriving on foot or by bike and staying in small one or two-man tents. When making a booking, select the cyclist option. You can find out more about this on our Tariff page.
