At Smytham Holiday Park we pride ourselves in our sustainability. Sustainability, conservation and being as eco-friendly as we can is a passion of ours, it both benefits your holiday and our environment.
Here are a few things we have done and plan to achieve soon to help the world run a little smoother.
We are wildlife lovers and endeavour to keep the wildlife and animals thriving. Back in 2014 Lucy and Richard built a bug hotel. Over the years it has benefitted from a few modifications and can be found at the bottom of the park beside our wildlife ponds. To help us embrace and encourage the natural wildlife to visit and enjoy the park as much as you do, be peaceful and mindful of the wildlife when you are visiting this area. If you love to spot the wildlife as much as we do, the quieter you are the more you will be able to see.
Wildflowers are beautiful, especially in the summer! Our dog walking field has some gorgeous wildflowers and greenery growing throughout the year. We have recently scattered wildflower seeds above the camping pods which we are hoping to see grow soon.
We have achieved a Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award 20 years in a row. We have also been awarded Bee Friendly awards.
We have also tried to reduce water waste on our park. In the toilet block, the showers run on motion sensors. You can easily and quickly adjust the temperature of the water so there is no wastage whilst you wait for your water to warm up. The drinking water taps are turn on and off rather than push button to reduce water loss and we have a dishwasher in the washing up area which reduces water usage.
Our future plans
We plan to remove as much single-use plastic from our park and shop as possible. We no longer sell plastic cutlery and have changed this to wooden cutlery, and straws that we sell are metal. Plates, bowls and cups that we sell in the shop are made from bamboo. In the bar paper straws are used as opposed to plastic ones.
We have started to sell local products and plan to stock more sustainable products in our shop in the future.
We plan to remove the use of plastic bags in our shop we will replace them with reusable or paper bags. We encourage bringing your own if you plan to need one.
We avoid unnecessary food packaging and are looking at options to install a refilling station soon.
Embrace sustainability with us.
